WASHINGTON — If you plan on keeping the holiday festivities going on New Year’s Day, don’t worry about running out of beverages. Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control stores will be open Jan. 1 for the first time.
This will be the first year ABC stores are open on the holiday thanks to a new law that went into effect July 1, according to the department. The legislation allowed ABC locations, which are the only retail locations in Virginia where customers can buy hard liquor — to open their doors earlier on Sunday and on New Year’s Day.
